Few people can claim to have combined their passion and their profession. The night sky has drawn Robert Dick outside for over forty years.
For over thirty of these years, Robert has been sharing his knowledge and interest with the public.
He has introduced thousands to the science and passion of astronomy and stargazing through public education and university courses. With slides, videotapes and films, Robert brings the sky alive for the audience.
He deliveres well illustrated talks to general audiences at the Canada Science and Technology Museum and gives presentations to special interest groups.
For over twenty years, he has given full credit courses on astronomy that are distributed nationwide on videotape and also one week mini-courses and five-evening workshops on star gazing, stellar astronomy, planetary astronomy as well as life in the universe and environmental topics such as scotobiology and light pollution.
Based on his reputation as a communicator and educator, he was invited by the Canadian Space Agency to be the astronomy instructor for the Canadian Astronauts.
Robert has built progressively larger telescopes to expand his view of the planets, moons, stars, nebulae, galaxies and quasars that populate the sky. With his private observatory in Eastern Ontario, one of the largest in Canada, he continues to study celestial phenomena and record his observations to further astronomy and to support his public presentations. These are made available to others by Starlight Theatre.
Through articles in newspapers and magazines, with contributions to several CD-ROM products and appearances on television and radio, Robert brings a lifelong interest and respect for the Universe to the public of all ages.
